Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) former President and Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Oscar Cruz said that Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chair Chito Gascon must be voluntarily resign.
Bishop Cruz said that Gascon must resign for not doing the job given to him properly as he didn’t gave any attention to the other human rights violation happened in the Philippines during his term.
Cruz also wondered why the current CHR chair didn’t paid any attention to the killings of teenagers in Caloocan.
According to him, he only saw that only the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) which led by Atty. Persida Acosta was the one that became active in helping the family of the teens killed in Caloocan.
This statement of Bishop Oscar Cruz surprised several netizens because the Catholic Church is a known critic of the President Duterte who both slammed CBCP and CHR for condemning the war against illegal drugs.
Last week, Oscar Cruz also expressed his support to the decision of the House of the Representatives to allocate only ₱1,000 budget for the next year budget of CHR.
“Nasan kayo? Ang dami-daming kababalaghan nangyayari dito. Patayan dito, patayan doon. Nasan kayo? Ano ang ginagawa niyo?” Archbishop Emeritus Oscar Cruz questioned.
He said that the ₱1,000 budget gave to them is a ‘wake-up call’ to work harder and do their real duty.
