President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday gave his piece on the rise in the spate of drug-related killings, saying those who engage in illegal activities should know the consequences of their actions.
In his first State of the Nation Address, Duterte said his job is to ensure the comfort and welfare of the people. “Things that are illegal and evil should not be done,” he said in Filipino.
“Kung ayaw niyong mamatay, kung ayaw niyong masaktan, huwag kayong umasa sa mga pari at sa human rights. Hindi nakakapigil yan ng kamatayan,” he added.
The President also noted that some broadsheets are even printing photos of suspected drug pushers being killed on their front pages.
“You are portrayed in a broadsheet na parang Mother Mary cradling the dead cadaver of Jesus Christ. Ayan yang mga yan, magda-dramahan tayo dito,” he said.
He said that in Davao City, he
has long warned criminals to stop their illegal activities or there will be trouble.
“He who is the cause of the cause is the cause of them all. Ikaw yung nag umpisa, you swallow…,” he said.
“Kami nagtatrabaho lang. We have a nation to guard. We have billions of people to see that they are healthy. It’s a question of drugs, a question of public interest and public order.”
