President Rodrigo Duterte is set to sign the most-awaited Philippine Identification System also known as Philsys Act into law on Monday, August 6.
The Senate ratified the said act on May 29, a week after the bicameral conference committee reconciled provisions of the bill that divided the chamber and the House of Representatives.
After being signed, the Philippine government will start issuing the national ID which consists the basic details such as name, gender, birth date, birthplace, and address.
For more security, the cards will contain the biometric information of the holders.
In March, Malacanang said that they’re confident that President Rodrigo Duterte would sign the national ID system.
“I believe [it will be signed because]there was an overwhelming consensus on the need for the national ID system,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a news briefing.
The signing ceremony will be held at Malacanang.
