President Rodrigo Duterte didn’t hold back in insulting United Nations High Commissioner on Human Rights Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein despite the government’s ongoing negotiation with Jordan for the procurement of helicopters.
At the inauguration of a bridge in Oriental Mindoro Tuesday (April 3), Duterte said he couldn’t help but lash out at Zeid for saying he needs to see a psychiatrist.
“Gusto kong gumanti. Sabi ko, ‘Ikaw, p***** i** kang pagong ka,’” he said.
Duterte acknowledged he had been told by Cabinet officials to hold back on criticizing Zeid because he is the brother of the king of Jordan and there are talks for the purchase of new helicopters.
“Gusto ko na sanang sabihin, you know, mister — eh kapatid ng king ng ano eh. Sabi niya — sabihin ko sana, ‘Look, you have a big head but it’s empty. There is no gray matter between your ears. It’s hollow. It’s empty,’” he said.
Zeid told Duterte to see a psychiatrist after his scathing remarks against United Nations Special Rapporteur Agnes Callamard, who has been critical of the government’s war on drugs.
Duterte said human rights activists must be “dreaming” to put him behind bars for his alleged crimes in connection with going after drug suspects.
