The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sunday said that the first phase of the mega drug rehabilitation center being constructed in Nueva Ecija will open before the end of November.
“While the government and our law enforcement agencies are striking hard on drug lords and coddlers, we have a soft heart for drug users and dependents who are the victims of this drug menace. With the opening of this facility, the government is fulfilling its promise to assist and help those who are willing to mend their ways,” said DILG Undersecretary John Castriciones.
He said the first of the four phases of the Mega Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Magsaysay will open on November 29.
The mega drug rehabilitation center will have a 10,000-bed capacity.
Castriciones said the first phase of the center has 2,500 beds.
The Philippine National Police has reported that more than 760,000 drug pushers and users have surrendered under Project Tokhang from July 1 to November 8.
It said that it is expecting at least 1.2 million drug pushers and users to surrender by January 2017.
President Rodrigo Duterte is eyeing the construction of two drug rehabilitation centers in Luzon and two more in Visayas and Mindanao.
Duterte also hopes to build one drug rehabilitation center for each province around the country during his term.
