The Philippines has secured $206 million in investments from the business sector of Qatar, bringing to $925 million the deals inked during the visit of President Rodrigo Duterte to the Middle East.

According to presidential spokesman Ernesto Abella, the investments signed between Qatar businessmen and the Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) will produce about 6,000 jobs.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez noted that these were a total of 13 “business-to-business deals.”

These cover several areas, including retirement villages, tourism, information technology, ecozone management, hospital and medical tourism, poultry and halal food processing, manufacture and export facilities of nano-structure carbon, and agro-industrial ecozones.

Overall, the Duterte administration is bringing home over $925-million worth of investment deals from the business communities of Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Qatar, where he went during his six-day visit to the region.

Abella said these deals are expected to generate some 62,000 jobs.
