OUTGOING Bureau of Customs (BOC) Commissioner Alberto D. Lina and Philippine Iron and Steel Institute (Pisi) Roberto Cola are now facing a complaint for violation of Republic Act 9485, or the Anti-Red Tape Act, before the Office of the Ombudsman by a new and independent player in the steel industry.
At a news briefing, Lawrence Daniel Sy, through his lawyer former University of the East College of Law Dean Amado D. Valdez, said they are eyeing the filing of graft charges and damage suit against Lina and Cola.
Valdez also sought the Ombudsman’s probe into possible existence of a steel cartel in the country, in light of his client’s predicament.
Sy is the president of the Manage Resources Trading Corp. (MRTC), which is engaged in the importation of steel bars.
