The Confessions of Cybersex Girl

Her name is Brenda. I met her when I visited my brother-in-law somewhere in Pampanga. Her job is to make people happy online; she is a performer a star, but she is not a YouTube sensation or Face book fan page star. Her job is to show her naked body to her clients online. She is a cybersex girl-an online prostitute.

Maybe most of us are familiar to this kind of job. Basically it is illegal under the law. It says that any sex offering online for financial purposes is illegal.

As stated below:

Republic Act No. 10175
(1) Cybersex. — The willful engagement, maintenance, control, or operation, directly or indirectly, of any lascivious exhibition of sexual organs or sexual activity, with the aid of a computer system, for favor or consideration.
(2) Child Pornography. — The unlawful or prohibited acts defined and punishable by Republic Act No. 9775 or the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009, committed through a computer system: Provided, That the penalty to be imposed shall be (1) one degree higher than that provided for in Republic Act No. 9775.

Brenda is 23 years old. She only finished high school. She was not able to pursue a college degree due to financialincapability of her family. She used to work as a sales lady in one of the malls in Quezon City. She said a saleslady’s job is difficult due to standing all day and entertaining rude customers, low salaries and it’s a contractual basis. She decided to quit her job and seek another job for better salaries; she applied in call center companies, but she is not able to pass all the interviews because she lacks the English proficiency skills that this kind of job requires.

Then one day a friend asked her if she wanted to try be a cybersex girl. At first she was shocked because it never crossed her mind to do to this kind of job.

But she badly needed a job to support herself and help her poor family. So she decided to try it, and said.

“Wala naman mawawala sa akin eh. Di naman mahahawakan ng mga customer ang katawan k. Hanggang tingin lang sila sa monitor.“ (I won’t lose anything, anyway. The customers can’t touch my body. They can only look at the monitor.”

In the middle of our conversation, I asked her what the set-up is like. I asked her who operates, this kind of business.

She told me that they are around 10-15 girls in the house of their boss.
They live in their boss’house as long as they are still working for him.
Their food and other basic necessities were provided by their boss.
The salary is in monthly basis, but it depends how much she earn per day.
If she earned 200 dollars in one day, she gets 20-30% of her total earnings.

Despite the big earnings she gets on cybersex job, she still dreams that someday she will get a job that she can proud of. She knows that the cybersex job is not a permanent job and it is illegal. She is also aware that one day their operation will be stopped and that she might be jailed for it. But for now, it’s her only means of surviving and meeting the financial needs of her family. Until when she’ll continue this job, she is not sure. The future is rather bleak for her and maybe for other girls who share her story.
