A man who claims to be a member of the Davao Death Squad (DDS) told the Senate on Thursday morning that then-Mayor-and-now-President Rodrigo Duterte ordered them to bomb a mosque and kill crime and drug suspects.
Senator Leila de Lima presented Edgar Matobato, 57, a Davao resident, at the hearing of the Senate committee on justice and human rights.
“Ang trabaho namin ay pumatay ng kriminal, drug pushers, snatcher, rapist,” said Matobato, who identified as a former Cafgu.
In 1993, Matobato said they bombed a mosque allegedly on orders of then-Mayor Duterte.
Among the people they allegedly killed was a certain Salik Makdum, whom he said they abducted from the Island City of Samal in 2002.
According to Motabato, they presented Makdum to then-Davao PAOCTF head-now-PNP Chief Ronald de la Rosa. He added that they then killed Makdum whom they buried in a quarry owned by a policeman.
